My teaching philosophy is a culmination of experiences in technology and high school education. Reflecting on teaching and learning, my goals as an educator are as follows: To foster discovery in learners; to increase learner self-efficacy; and to provide learners with knowledge and skills they can incorporate into their lives and professions.

Technology has become a part of our everyday 21st century lives; learners should receive an education where they gain an understanding of technology to achieve their academic and professional goals. However, while I believe that technology is a valuable learning tool; it should not override instruction.

Additionally, I recognize that learners come from diverse sociocultural, cognitive, and academic backgrounds. In my teaching, I have always made it a priority to account for the unique needs of each learner by differentiating guidance and instructional strategy, and by providing real-world examples of how content can be applied to their everyday lives. I also integrate different learning theories into my instruction. As a science teacher, I often used constructivism and inquiry based learning to foster student learning during laboratory activities. I believe that well designed curriculum and instruction play a vital role in learning. Further, I believe that instructors should facilitate student learning, providing the correct amount of guidance so that students can discover knowledge. Finally, student learning must be measured with carefully designed formative assessment and summative assessment methods.
